About

Serene Parker founded Serene Vocal Studio (SVS) in 2016, where she has since taught both private and group lessons. While Serene trains students in various vocal styles, she specializes in pop and musical theater, which remain her favorite genres to teach and perform.

Serene studied Vocal Performance at BYU–Idaho and Dixie State College (now Utah Tech University), where she received classical training and developed a solid technical foundation. She studied voice under respected instructors Dr. Ken Peterson and Dr. Jackie Jackson, and continues her development by training with Keri Hughes. Studying with Keri has enhanced Serene’s expertise in musical theater and contemporary belt techniques, allowing her to offer more targeted instruction to students pursuing these styles. A dedicated lifelong learner, Serene is currently pursuing her accreditation through the International Voice Teachers of Mix(IVTOM). She also has an extensive background in recording, with seven albums and several cover singles to her name, along with a continued passion for working in the recording studio.

A key feature at SVS is the opportunity for students to record in a professional studio through a partnership with Lerud Media Productions. Each spring, students prepare polished pieces that highlight both healthy technique and artistry. These recordings are showcased on Serene’s YouTube channel, Serene Vocal Studio, which has grown to over 46,000 subscribers.

In addition to weekly lessons, SVS students participate in masterclasses and performance opportunities throughout the year. Many have gone on to land leading roles in local theater productions, such as Hale Centre Theatre and the Ruth, as well as school musicals and choirs.

Serene’s training at the Actors in Action Conservatory deeply shapes her approach to teaching, integrating the Arthur Lessac voice technique—a method known for promoting vocal health and natural resonance—with the art of performance. By connecting technical singing with expressive intent, Serene helps students develop a more effortless, efficient vocal technique that supports both healthy singing and authentic, dynamic performances.

She is the creator of The Vocal Book, a comprehensive curriculum designed to strengthen students’ singing, ear training, music reading, and performance skills. Students in Serene’s group voice classes utilize this resource to establish a solid musical foundation, helping them to develop into confident, well-rounded musicians.

Serene has participated in a variety of theatrical performances. Some of her theater stage credits include: Anastasia (Countess Lily, Timpanogos Arts), Amadeus (Constanze, Regalo Theater), Anastasia (Countess Lily, Empress Theater), Pirates of Penzance (Mabel, Emerson Smith Media), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Martha, St. George Musical Theater), Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (Rhoda, Regalo Theater), Bright Star (Sentinel Theater) Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Murray Arts), Beauty and the Beast (St. George Musical Theater), and Sweeney Todd (Timpanogos Arts).

Serene sang with Vox Humana Chorale Ensemble, Lux Singers, Colorado Saints Chorale and co-directed Bella Notte Women’s Chorus. She also had the pleasure to be the musical director for several shows, including Tarzan the Musical (Empress Theater) and Beauty and the Beast Jr. (Louisville, CO). Serene has sung as a soloist multiple times in community musical events, performing Handel's Messiah.
